Many thanks to those who have boosted and/or chipped in. If you live in #NewMexico it may be obvious why you should support Land of Action. If it isn’t, or you are a progressive elsewhere who is fighting for constitutional democracy, civil rights, and government for the general welfare, I’d like to explain why supporting the effort with a few bucks makes sense. /1 https://landofaction.org

#NewMexico is the linchpin of progressivism in the American southwest. The Republican Fascist Party knows this. It and its supporters pour money into our elections in an effort switch NM from blue to red. There are parts of the state that already tilt red. But throughout NM there are grassroots progressive groups fighting not only to keep NM blue, but to make it ever more genuinely progressive. 2/

States like Nevada and Arizona will never move toward American progressivism without #NewMexico leading the way. In fact, New Mexico serves as an example and beacon for progressives to our south, in Texas.

Our population is small and spread out, which can make statewide organizing, communication, and action challenging. So I founded #LandofAction to serve as an umbrella and resource for grassroots progressive groups across NM. https://www.landofaction.org/mission-statement/ 3/

Land of Action's Mission and How We Will Accomplish It

⛰️Our Mission 🤝 Help New Mexico grassroots progressive organizations find and learn from each other. 💪 Provide a repository of resources, ideas, and concrete steps New Mexico grassroots progressive organizations can use to strengthen their work. Land of Action is itself a grassroots group, formed and staffed by volunteers who have worked

Land of Action

I hope #LandofAction will also become a model for grassroots progressive networking, mutual support, and empowerment in other states.

So, I’m putting much of my activist time and effort into growing Land of Action. I had initially thought its presence would be primarily online. But LoA has already attracted volunteers and interest from around #NewMexico! 4/

#LandofAction is supporting and facilitating a growing statewide campaign on the importance of - and threats to - free and fair elections in #NewMexico. I am making materials to be used throughout the state between now and the 2026 general election. 5/
#LandofAction also decided to support #SantaFe Human Rights Alliance and its #Pride Festival this coming Saturday, 6/27, by buying booth space and renting necessary equipment. We want to show our full and enthusiastic commitment to the LGBTQ+ community in #NewMexico and beyond. We’ve invited groups from across New Mexico to share information about themselves via our booth. And we will be publicizing Land of Action and the campaign for free and fair elections in our state. 6/
I plan to run #LandofAction on a shoestring budget for as long as possible, partly to show how much support and facilitation we can provide #NewMexico grassroots progressive groups without spending a lot of money. It has been easy for me to cover basic expenses so far. But #Pride takes some funds, especially to print some bookmarks promoting LoA and its work. So, I am reaching out to raise $500, with $470 to go. 7/

Which brings me to my ask of this community: if you have $5 to support #LandofAction, grassroots progressivism #NewMexico and #Pride, I’d appreciate your help. You can contribute via my kofi link, https://ko-fi.com/heidi36465.

I never take the generosity of folks here for granted. I try to fundraise for causes relevant to progressives across the U.S. and even beyond. This is why I’ve taken the time to explain why Land of Action and NM grassroots progressivism matters beyond my state. 8/

I know too that when I report on boosts and donations from the Mastodon/fediverse community to local #LandofAction supporters and small #NewMexico grassroots progressive groups that will feed their motivation and enthusiasm. Collective action takes every kind of mutual support and aid. The work can be lonely and incremental. By bolstering each other we drive home that the fight for American progressivism is being waged across the country and even from abroad. 9/
In fact, just writing this thread, explaining the connections I see between New Mexico and the prospects for progressivism in other states and my effort to build connection between grassroots progressives here has reminded me that I do not work on behalf of justice, rule of law, constitutional democracy and the common good in solitude. 10/10
