mandy brownI really think the only reasonable response to the increasing prevalence of 996 in the tech world is to organize for a 20 hour workweek with no reduction in pay. They are trying to move the Overton window for working hours; let’s drag it the fuck back.
Jon Wood@aworkinglibrary my employer instituted a four day week a year or two ago, with no reduction in pay, and it really does transform things. I’ve got a day to myself to get chores and the like done without eating into the weekend, they’ve got an employee who’s near impossible to hire away, you’d genuinely have to either double my pay or match the four day week for me to even consider jumping ship.
VANTABlack@jon @aworkinglibrary I have worked a variety of shifts and I think 3 or 4 day shifts should be more common. Even if it is 4x10hr or 3x12 they more days off do so much more for preventing burn out in my experience.
I don't mind more hours, but you know corporations expect you to be there all the time and don't care about mental health. If I could just say "I am not feeling it can I have less hours this week" that would be amazing. Though some people HAVE to work more hours to pay the bills.

I hope the annual leave doubles like the hours per week does!
Ie 72 hours a week instead of 35 should be 82 days leave per year instead of 40.
Joking aside, a 996 working pattern sounds horrendous.
