Vibe coded websites are my new turn off 😫

Or more fairly: websites that are *styled* that way (tho TBH probably actually are)

Don’t want to name and shame but:
* dark background
* single pixel outline around round rects
* too much nesting
* arbitrary pseudo stylish italic serif font for header

* unnecessary complexity suggesting no deep thought: too many little captions, sub headings etc
* lots and lots of sections

Arrgh!

@joethephish Was it the https://swiftos.tech/ website by any chance? ;-)
swift-os — a real operating system, written in Swift

swift-os is an experimental but real operating system written entirely in Embedded Swift for aarch64. It boots, runs a native Swift userland and an in-kernel TCP/IP stack, serves HTTP, and runs a native Swift AI inference server — try it in your browser.

@schwa GODDAMNIT 🙈

I guess you figured it out from timing!

Okay now we’re shaming shamelessly, this is the one that first made me think it a few months ago: https://commaguide.com/openpilot-branch-comparisons

openpilot Fork Comparison — FrogPilot, sunnypilot, dragonpilot, BluePilot, OPKR, OPGM

Interactive feature comparison of FrogPilot, sunnypilot, dragonpilot, BluePilot, OPKR, and OPGM. Toggle forks to compare them side-by-side.

@joethephish If it helps - I had the exactly same reaction as you ;-)
@schwa that *does* help, thank you
MiniSwift — Run SwiftUI in any browser, no Mac

Write and run real SwiftUI in any browser — live preview, debugger, SwiftData and Foundation, all client-side. No Mac, no Xcode, no server.

@mrudokas @schwa those are the same website
At this point I genuinely don’t understand if it’s a vibe coding issue or just because they’re all using the same CSS framework and sharing a theme? (Tailwind?)
@joethephish Maybe both. This is definitely either reliance on the same template for “inspiration”, or plain instruction to copy the style — even the slight radial gradient at the top and diminished line grid in the background — same same.

@mrudokas @joethephish Funny enough, this is actually the first time I’ve seen swift-os. 😄

The projects are completely unrelated. They’re building an OS in Swift; I’m building a Swift compiler, runtime, and browser IDE.

I can see the visual similarity, but I don’t even use Tailwind , all of my CSS is handwritten. The orange tones are intentional too: “Toprak” means “soil” in Turkish, a nod to my surname.

@toprakdeviren @mrudokas fair enough, apologies for the criticism! Awesome project btw 👍

@joethephish @toprakdeviren Criticism is valid, therefore no apologies needed.

If somebody needs to apologize — it’s one of those projects to another one, in case this was intentional copying. If not, then maybe Claude should apologize to both sides for the lack of “imagination” in it’s design skills.

@mrudokas @joethephish I wasn't expecting an apology anyway ;-) We followed each other in a very civilized way. Unfortunately, this Claude issue keeps coming up, but it's a theme I've worked hard to establish not just here, but on all my pages: llm.istanbul, toprak.run, sengi.surf, bla bla.

Thank you.
