World's wealthiest cause trillions in environmental damage each year

The world's wealthiest 10% are responsible for up to $5.7 trillion in annual environmental damage, according to a new study.

Obviously, billionaires should pay more tax — no argument there.

But your petition talks about billionaires and the top 1% as if they were the same group. They're not. Five years ago, for example, an annual income of £175,000 would have put you in the top 1% in the UK. Most of the top 300,000 people in the UK don't have private jets or superyachts and simply aren't in the same obscene class as people like Musk and Bezos. Most of them don't have access to the same tax-avoidance schemes as billionaires, and actually pay a higher proportional rate of tax than you and I do.
