I am now the very best in the Kanto region. I think it is poetic that I beat Alakazam (the rival's last monster) with Sandshrew and Butterfree. I am also always amused that I named the rival Smelly.

This champion fight was much easier than Platinum. For the most part, just getting in STAB moves seemed more important than the move itself. I blew through almost all my max revives and potions in the last two fights.

Lapras was probably the MVP against the elite 4 for me. Maltres (which was a last minute sub for Ninetales) had a key revive in the final battle, tanking a few hits from Charzard. Venusaur didn't do much, but did provide a critical sleep against alakazam.

I may muck around with the post game and get Mewtwo, but I still haven't tired of this series yet, so will probably jump to Heart Gold (or the other one?) next.

@scribblemacher Congrats!! I would recommend Emerald as well on GBA, much to chew through in that one in a similar vein to Platinum. Once you beat a fair share of mainline titles, there is also an entire universe of rom hacks and fan games worth diving into—many of which outdo official versions in my humblest opinion

@rootcompute I looked at a few hacks (mostly for the GB and GBC games). I was just looking for something to fix the clock in Crystal so I could use an Everdrive, but was surprised by how many high-quality hacks these games have seen--there are some that "hack" doesn't seem to even do the work justice; more like "new games based on..."

(the solution for Crystal, by the way, is to enter the date/time every single time the game boots, which is a bit of a pain)

@scribblemacher I haven't played the post game at all yet in leaf green either. Not feeling the motivation.

@feedtheplants I'm not so much unmotivated to jump into post games as I am still excited to try other entries in this series.

Gen 5 might be as late as I go though. It looks like once you get into the 3DS era and beyond, these games become more talking/cutscene-focused, which is not really my thing.

@scribblemacher Congratulations on the win. I haven't finished HeartGold, yet, but I've gotten to 7 badges and it's been a pretty good game, if a little weirder than Red, Blue, and Yellow. The start has some backtracking for the Mystery Egg when you only have the Running Shoes to speed that up. There are also some diversions you can absolutely skip, such as getting all the Unown. But, there are some diversions you should take, like stopping in Dark Cave just for a Geodude (don't worry about teaching Flash, yet).
