When I first moved here six years ago, I complained and complained that I was in the middle of NYC and the only thing available here was fucking Spectrum (cable) with like 5-10mbit upload speeds. After an awful year of that, T-Mobile's 5g home internet stuff became available. It was finicky and the modem crashed/overheated all the time, but I could often get 100mbit upload speeds.

A year ago Verizon ran fiber down my street. On Monday, I'll finally get 300mbit up!

Note that I moved here from the other side of Forest Hills, where WE HAD FIBER. It just wasn't available on this side of Forest Hills because 'murrica.
@Andres4NY My UWS building of 350 apts just got Verizon FiOS last year, apparently after 15 years of asking Verizon, please, oh, pretty please. Verizon apparently operates on their own schedule, which makes no sense to anyone outside the company.
@roadskater My HOA had been asking for probably a similar amount of time. Verizon gave them the excuse that the historical covenant wouldn't allow it, but it ended up not being a factor because they just ran the fiber underneath the street. Verizon quoted some ridiculous fee to run it *through the basements of the rowhouses*. So not only hugely expensive/unnecessary, but also would've required literally every family on our side of the street to agree to them drilling basement holes. 🤨
@Andres4NY My building had to have major work done 5-6 years ago with re-piping ALL of the gas lines. Would have been opportune for Verizon to come in and do their thing, too. But apparently not.
