Greg Jericho @grogsgamut is so good at unpacking this stuff.

Imagine if our institutions acted in pursuit of the common good, not of corporate profit.

The discredited neoliberal dogma that increasing corporate profits benefits everyone was taught as gospel when our current generation of politicians & technocrats trained. It was not supported by evidence then & it is not now. You’d think people who see themselves as rational would be influenced by evidence. But no.

Imagine if we were all willing to listen, learn & change our minds when presented with evidence. Imagine if we all cared about the common good.

Imagine.

The bleak view that unemployment needs to rise shows the RBA acts firstly in the interests of companies, not workers

The Reserve Bank governor has made clear the cash rate has been increased not to reduce inflation but to make it harder to bargain for higher wages

The skill you're talking about is critical thinking, and it's suspiciously* left out of most education systems. That's why I'm trying to fill that gap (as well as some others) with my free program:

(Critical Thinking is in Level 2.)

*Yeah, I'm being generous. I'm sure that it's deliberate because it benefits the status quo by keeping people in the dark. In fact, so good is their propaganda that they managed to change the meaning of the word "technocrat", because at one time it referred to people that supported a well-designed, science based system that would be dedicated to the pursuit of the common good, as you say:
