#MacroMonday Laphria gilva, the Robber Fly
My phone wanted to change gilva to Giovanni so that is now its name. Giovanni the Robber Fly.

This apex predator of the insect world mimics a bumblebee at first glance. It is a ferocious flyer. if you ever hear one you know they mean business. Very large insects. this one was probably around 2.5” long. They catch other insects mid air with those legs and inject them with paralytic inside-liquifying enzymes because why not? That seems to be the norm around here. This is a super rare sighting for me however as this is the only one I’ve ever seen. The head can move independent of the body and it looked up at me with its Pilot Shade-looking eyes before zooming off again. I swear “Highway to the Danger Zone” from Top Gun started playing.

Wow, Giovanni has very interesting feet! 😮
Giovanni don’t play around. he’s got the best shoes.
Question is how does he wear his shoes? 🤔
🤣🤣🤣 Lmfao! I wanted to go with option A but if those are his toes then he can fit both of them in a boot…option B is my answer here.
😂 Sadly, this makes a lot of sense!
Lady Godiva!
You call it Giovanni, I call it Nope.
lol. It looks creepy but it eats a lot of pests.

@FlashF1R3 Insect world equivalent of a tactical nuke. Only thing that can take down a dragonfly.

That one looks like it carries off small dogs and the occasional unwary human.

@[email protected] lmao, my god the sound it makes while flying…it scared my wife, landed on a leaf and then gazed up at her. I ran to get my camera because priorities. I told her to hang on to the bushes if it tried to carry her off.
