@FoxesInLove Could I book them both for my local train stations?
@Prof_Panthera @FoxesInLove same! or in a future iteration, so they don't have to like super position... mark rober video where he makes a totally overkill heat seeking water jet to stop smokers! And then makes it open source!
@FoxesInLove i really would love a water sniper ^^

@Simx72 @FoxesInLove

well, category "how to avoid making friends" :-D

@Simx72 me too

if anyone knows where to get water gun powerful enough for sniping, PLEASE let me know

@FoxesInLove

@FoxesInLove On a Lake Champlain tour boat almost 30 years ago there was a "No Smoking" sign with a fire extinguisher next to it. They meant it.

Unfortunately, if I ever had a photo it's been lost.

@FoxesInLove I get the feel of this, these people are addicts though, addicts who sometimes will negativly impact their friends and comrades in order to feed their addiction.

I would say they need help, but as is often the case, many don't want to be helped.

It's the normalizing of this that concerns me most though. But capitalism thrives on individualism.

#smoking #addictions

@wmd I find it very hard to deal with smokers, I am extremely sensitive to smoke and can't deal with it even outside or in well ventilated areas. And I don't even have asthma or any other serious lung condition. And I certainly get the victimizing element of being an addict and having this compulsion to do it. At the same time I feel like in counter-cultural spaces smoking is almost lionized or at least socially slightly encouraged. And that makes me a lot less able to engage with groups and people, I feel significantly less welcome in a lot of spaces because of smokers. I really wish I could navigate a way through that that considered both sides of that equation.

@GLaDTheresCake I'm very aware of the dynamic and issue, I have a weak throat, even an hour outside with some smokers can affect me for some days.

I also have quite some friends who are addicted, proclaiming willingly or not. They know my situation, and smoke anyway. Resulting either in leaving me out of conversation or leaving me with a hurtful throat. But they are my friends, so assume it's the best they can do. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@GLaDTheresCake I however do consider the 'choices' they 'have' to make and my needs. So might need to spend less time with them to care for my own health as they can't support me in it. It's sad, but 🤷🏼‍♀️

@GLaDTheresCake the italian hackmeeting I just visited is I feel a very prime example of conflicting needs. But also notice a lack of awareness. So I'm considering maybe facilitating an open and drugs friendly and anti specieist (another issue was a fear of dogs) discussion on the social implications of our actions.

I'm curious what would come out of a discussion that isn't focused on banning anything as is often the case.

@GLaDTheresCake @wmd Yeah, it is still seen as rebellious to smoke in my experience. Meanwhile I have started getting outright asthma attacks to it.

Currently navigating the fact my otherwise very nice neighbours smoke outside their front door and sometimes on their balcony and I need to slam the ventilation to avoid getting an asthma attack. But there is literally no other option unless they go all the way out of the apartment building.

Like what do you do. —Vi

@wmd @FoxesInLove I wouldn’t categorise ”being a smug asshole” as part of the addiction, though. It’s perfectly possible to handle your addiction without the assholeism.

@wmd
I recently was on a protest against the German government cutting social services and, even on rock concerts, I've never inhaled that much smoke.

I suppose it makes sense that there's a crossover between smokers and service dependants or stressed social workers,
but that was the first time that smoke gave me a full on panic attack.
Luckily I was there with a group of social workers who took me aside for a moment and gave me chewing gum.

@FoxesInLove

Snoipin's a good job, mate.

@argv_minus_one @FoxesInLove except the TF2 sniper’s squirt gun wouldn’t be filled with water
@FoxesInLove I volunteer to enforce “no vaping” by slingshot.
@FoxesInLove I want that kind of squirt sniper gun!

Nice, but not quite the range I'd like.

Might be hard to do with liquid water though.

A serious enginnered laminar flow nozzle makes it well possible to shoot one "bolt" of water over several ten meters

Water fountain laminar flow options using a 3d printer - can the default be significantly improved on?

@Laberpferd I'll have a read... But I probably don't have the capacity to build something like that myself then. Too bad.

i am open to be part of designing an open source remote fire extinguisher
@FoxesInLove The smoker is grey, that is so fitting 😊
@FoxesInLove Can we get these watergun snipers setup just, like, everywhere? Please?
@FoxesInLove it is Berry the Bluetipus!
Quite the friendly bunch here.
