In case you missed it: One of the most interesting #linuxaudio Projects at the moment is the #OpenMixerProject. Right now, it's in an early alpha state, running on the X32, with barely the basic features implemented. But on the horizon, there's surround sound, plugins, lighting control, a Raspberry Pi extension board and even support for another manufacturer's stageboxes! In other words, things that no one ever dared to dream of. It's really a fun project to watch.

@tm wow... i wish someone would do this on the Akai-Force.
so far there are only bootstraping based projects who enhance the features a bit. but nothing as radical as this.

@Matjoe what are you missing from the Akai Force in this regard?

@tm

@mosgaard @tm
for my use, the main culprit is a proper midi implementation.
right now it is still a mess.
on the whole MPC range, they went for an ALPHABETICAL preset storage logic (!) and not the ubiquitous Midi bank/preset logic. this means you cant use program change on internal plugin presets ... since this affects both the whole range and the way preset library are handled , their holy cash cow being selling software... they will never have the courage to tackle this.

@Matjoe @tm that’s a really good point!

It’s easy to see they have a business model focusing more and more on selling additional effects and plugins for their closed systems.

Have you seen the MockbaMod project? https://github.com/MockbaTheBorg/MockbaMod

@mosgaard @tm yes i am a mockba user too. but from what i understand, there is only so much a bootstrap on an inbeded linux can do. Mockba unleashes pretty cool stuff like filetransfer over network, more tracks, custom midi shortcuts etc... but the core of it stays the MPC embeded linux system with all its flaws.
@mosgaard @tm the dream would be to run bitwig natively on it. would it be only an older version and even without vst capabilities to fit the hardware limitations.

@Matjoe I'm happy it made you start dreaming, just like myself.

It only took 14 years for the X32! And maybe someone sometime in the 2030s will buy a used Akai force and then everything will happen!

@tm i am sure some people are already reverse engineering it quietly. InMusic still has the incentive to sell software to force owners. As long as it is not completely discontinued and unsupported, there is no upside in distributing a DIY firmware i'm afraid.
