I was reminded of this superb piece by @pluralistic when i was doing the groceries this morning and a flustered shop attendant had to deal with three malfunctioning self-checkout machines, while three weary customers were exchanging glances. Including the mum with small child whose machine glitched after every item, and who clearly did not need that level of friction in her life right now.

@thecasualcritic @pluralistic dont shop at places that make customers do the job of an employee, unless they pay you for it.
@dwntwnT @pluralistic sadly this supermarket held out for a long time against self checkout, but they've recently appeared here as well. But all supermarkets here have them now, so to avoid them would mean spreading the groceries across multiple shops that are further away.
