Two regions have done well out of Brexit:

1. Northern Ireland, which has remained more integrated with the EU economy than the rest of the UK has seen its economy (measured by regional value added per person) increase more than any other region;

2. Rotterdam and surrounding environs, which have seen a major increase in warehousing by UK firms seeking to keep their stock/products *within* the EU.

Not sure either of those appeared on the side of a red bus....

@ChrisMayLA6 EU citizen with ideas and ideals who wanted away from their native country came to the UK and generated wealth for the country. There was a brain drain towards the UK.

@littlemouse

well, its not shown up in economic data - the UK has lost around 8% of GDP growth based on pre-Breixt trends....

@ChrisMayLA6 Not only Rotterdam. Shortly after the Brexit, I suddenly could order British supplies from French companies. It was more than only warehouses but also cooperations with production directly in France.
@ChrisMayLA6 There's also the former land bridge from Dover to Holyhead, now bypassed by a fleet of new ferries. Nobody wants to live on a juggernaut rat-run, that's now gone!
@ChrisMayLA6
Also Ireland has massively more ferries to the Europe mainland.
@raymaccarthy @ChrisMayLA6 Oh really? That’s good. I only knew about the one from Normandy.

At Rosslare, Ireland’s closest port to France, sailings and cargo capacity for roll-on, roll-off shipments by lorry have quadrupled in the past month. Other vessels are being rerouted from Belfast, Liverpool and Holyhead to launch more Dublin-France services.

Routes to Spain & Netherlands too.
The truck drivers get a sleep & rest.
Also a new Ireland - France electricity cable.
Ferry firms avoid Britain with ‘Brexit buster’ services from Ireland

Stena Line and Irish Ferries shift ships to Ireland-France routes to bypass bureaucratic snarls.

@raymaccarthy @mkoek @ChrisMayLA6

New ferry service this year from Cork (Ringaskiddy) to Boulogne, as well as the existing ones to Normandy and Spain.

I hope it does well...🤞

@ChrisMayLA6 i suspect Ireland as a whole has benefited from Brexit due to its proximity to the UK and its native English speaking majority

@ChrisMayLA6

"Not sure either of those appeared on the side of a red bus.... "

And let’s not forget the cynical, deliberate deception of what was written on that bus. Carefully constructed by lawyers to ensure that it was not 'incorrect' but effectively a total lie and a 40% increase over what the actual sum was.

Shitty people do, what shitty people do.

@ChrisMayLA6

Saw this just now ...

Fairly stunning that as rock solid a Conservative as Heseltine, would say such a thing.

“Never have so few, done so much damage to so many, with so little ability to execute what they lied about."

@gsymon @ChrisMayLA6

Good for him. There are vanishingly few old-school Conservatives that I respect, but he's one of them. He actually walked away from Thatcher's Cabinet over a point of principle, if I remember rightly.

@gsymon @ChrisMayLA6 FYII He's very pro-EU and has been involved with the European Movement for a few years now. Don't forget that Johnson purged Tories like Dominic Grieve (now co-president of Eur Movement) from the party.
