I still don't think I've encountered one instance in social media of anyone explaining what WWDC stands for.

#WWDC

I've only been salty about this for nine years. 🙄

The Ambiguity Of Acronyms

We suck at acronyms. For web content, there's no excuse for this.

It's All Just Electrons

@DaveMasonDotMe even in the same industry acronyms change meaning.
Motorola: the SST meant spray solvent tool
Intel: an SST was a self sustaining technician
Almost every writing style guide requires defining the acronym in it's first use in a document. Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS)*, American Psychological Association (APA)... Yet I rarely see any acronyms defined.

* Not to be confused with the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) battery in your computer. ;-)

@DaveMasonDotMe
Huh, I just learned that your second example with the lorum Ipsum text is actually compliant with the Associated Press style guide which says to write out the phrase on the first instance, then use the acronym in all later instances. I agree with you that there's nothing that ties the acronym to the definition, and don't care for this style.
@Jirikiha
It's all very frustrating.
I think there should be separate style guides for html.
@DaveMasonDotMe you probably already know this by now, but World Wide Developer Conference (or at least it used to)
