This GTA Weekly article from last month makes an interesting case for making Jane Street the next rapid transit corridor. Wonder what
@[email protected] & other transit fans think of this idea?

Jane Street Subway Line Could Transform Toronto Transit
A Jane Street subway could connect Line 1, 2, 5 and 6 while supporting Toronto’s broader transit expansion strategy.
GTA WeeklyI will say something unpopular here in that subways should not be the first/only option considered. I'm not pushing LRT because that horse died on Finch and Eglinton, and Jane would be very difficult esp south of Eglinton. (1)
(2) We seem to be jumping over BRT. Also there are heavier corridors if money is burning a hole in our pocket. There is a very strong argument for extending the OL north to Sheppard as an elevated from Don Valley Station as an example.
(3) An issue on Jane is the distribution of major stops/origins/destinations. How many stops would a subway have and how many riders would be disserviced in the process? See Eglinton for comparison.
(4) Also there's the question of where Jane would rank vs Sheppard E or W, Eglinton E and waterfront E. I can imagine some pitched battles for priority and funding among "deserving" communities. None of these is a done deal yet.
(5) Finally I have to beat the drum for service improvements generally. We spend cast efforts drawing lines on maps that cannot possibly be in service within a decade, but leave the surface networks to rot. Tech battles between streetcar haters, ebus aficionados, and just plain buses don't help.
