I’m 48 now and I have fallen out of all the target markets of films and TV shows.
Young Adult? New Adult? Not my age group. I am also tired of straight romances or rom coms. I’ve seen my fair share of those growing up, because there weren’t any queer ones back then.
Action movies? Not interested.
Marvel? Hello, franchise fatigue.

And there are hardly any female characters of my age (and even less queer afab people) with which I can identify, because mostly, these characters are mothers (or aunts) and all about family, or if they are older, they are grandmothers. If they happen to be child-free, they are mostly depicted as eccentric or weird old cat ladies and such.

Another thing is that I have watched so many films now, that the structures of each genre are very familiar (and thus, predictable) to me.

For a while, I almost entirely watched True Crime, because as opposed to scripted stories, true crimes often do not stick to a formulaic structure and can offer quite some surprises.

What I still like to watch is horror, because I enjoy recreational fear. However, horror films are often either really good, or really bad, at least in my experience.
