One of the things that grinds my fuckin' gears the most about "AI" boosters is how much they chastise the rest of us for "refusing to engage".

I am not refusing to engage! When i yell at the top of my lungs about how shitty and destructive this shit is, i am engaging! This is what engaging looks like, because every new technology is first and foremost a site of struggle!

What the cultists are trying to insist we do isn't "engage", it's "concede".

@adrienne If LLMs worked, didn't destroy the environment, and were 100% accurate I think they'd have an actual product.

Unfortunately that isn't reality and they are generally awful. And once their investors realize it's snake oil they'll be sold to nothing.

The false analogy with human learning is particularly insulting. (Plus the implication we should respect a fucking LLM like if it was a conscious mind. Anthropomorphization is one of their surest rhetorical weapons.)
