So, the biggest IPO in the history of the world has the vast majority of its future value being created by an AI platform whose only distinction, thus far, is that it is the only one that's generated sexualized imagery of children? this is the really ineffective head-in-the-sand reaction a lot of folks on Bluesky tend to have if you talk about any harm reduction-based approach to the reality that millions of people are using AI tools today. The current approach to critiquing AI is obviously not working, but they don't care.

@silverwizard It's good that you've got receipts, and those are broadly important in the world.

Also, Dash is currently making very good trouble against the power structures that are boosting AI so maybe use more energy on the common fight than dragging current allies? Just pointing out this is an example of that foible of the left where we hobble our own fight. Heaven knows I've done it too; I want to drop that habit counteractive to our goals.

@silverwizard Isn't it useful to be able to say "Even the inventor of NFTs is against the AI companies"? And isn't he going to be able to reach and convert audiences which are hard for others opposing AI to reach?

Is your goal a pure priesthood of anti-AI people or is it kneecapping the OpenAI IPO?

@silverwizard Good reminder. Yes, I do a lot of thinking about how to juggle the risk of centrism vs the risk of ineffectiveness, & need to continue to do more.

Being too centrist in the past (like most who have voted Dem in US) is definitely a failing to which I'll admit

I appreciate the clarity of your position. "must admit any failing in order to get credit" is a starting point different than what I have chosen & continue to choose. Enlightening to have it plainly stated.

@metagrrrl Fundamentally - I don't believe that people can be a beacon in a movement when they are the person who have made major mistakes. People can make mistakes - but they must attempt to reflect in order to grow. Seeing Anil Dash, who, as a reminder, invented the NFT, attempt to be held up as a mover against AI, while, never apologizing for his vocal and loud support for AI, nor apologizing for his invention of the NFT, means we are simply forgetting history instead of attempting to grow.

You reject that you invented the NFT (which I know you quibble about the definition of NFT and stuff in order to take responsibility) you've not engaged with your past behaviour endorsing LLMs, and you've tried to accuse me of sexually abusing children. Just in this thread. I'm going to insult you in your mentions so that, when people see your lame attempts to grapple with your actions, they think about your past.

You are held up as a symbol, and I mean, I know you mean well, but you try to take a centrist, calm and collected, middle of the road view these days. And I wish you were my ally in the fight because I know you want to be. But you aren't. So yeah, you are an object for performance, I am playing to an audience, like you. You want to be held up as a progressive genius. and I want to remind people that you actions keep hurting people.

You could engage me like I’m a person, and have a conversation. But instead, your own insecurity compelled you to engage with me through the lens of your resentment, so you treated me like an object. @silverwizard @metagrrrl It's just true, and it's obvious in contrast to people who just act *normal*. Plenty of folks have said, "Hey, have you considered this" and shared critical feedback, and I've reflected and agreed with their criticism or changed the way I was moving or thinking about things. But people who lead with fanfic they've made up about me aren't acting in good faith, and are lashing out at an imagined enemy; it's never useful to indulge that, so I don't.
