"the language we are using about AI adoption is very similar to how Clayton Williams described rape.

“It’s happening whether you want it or not.”"

How to use NO as a complete sentence

I did my job fine before AI came along. Now my workplace ‘suggests’ we use it. How do I say no?

Mike Monteiro’s Good News
@tante corporations are dragging commoners in this race. Eventually everyone will jump into it voluntarily - FOMO.

@tante

AI is itself an implementation in what sense? Where do we expect efficiencies to be found through these means? What is the approximate timeframe for the plateau?

They say it's an "AI Race" but, it's more like being kicked down the mountain to a plateau. Feels exactly like tyranny.

@tante Not sure that's a great allegory. EVERY technical development over all of recorded history had it's share of luddites. If civilization & progress had *ever* depended on the explicit acquiescence of it's slowest adopters we'd probably still be squatting in caves sucking grubs out of rotting timbers.

@Beggarmidas

But noone forced others to install a steam engine or an assembly line. People could decide, wether they wanted to use a technology or not. They had a choice.
Today, it's very hard to choose freely. The tech bros are much more powerful than the inventors, pioneers and early adopters of the past.

@tante

@nilz @tante Uhm...You may wish to fact check those. Just sayin. There was a whole era specifically called the 'robber barons' for a reason. Also depends on how you mean 'forced'. If you mean enslaved maybe not. But too poor & desperate to be picky about a job then yes. As things go (for the moment at any rate) you have more options than any of your ancestors did a century ago or further. I know this is a bad moment & all. But compare yourself to a Victorian pauper or medieval serf for contrast
@Beggarmidas @nilz @tante tech bros are in the business of digital slave trading...nothing new there. on the other hand, "AI" is a marketing term, not a serious scientific one. to mistake it for progress is one of the greatest achievements of big tech propaganda...
@pookiesorcery @nilz @tante Some are. Many are nowdays. But not ALL 'techbros' are bent on evil. Johanna Småros doesn't fit your narrative at all. Neither does Craig Newmark. They are in fact paragons by every available measure. Nor should Google Accelerator alumni be counted among the 'move fast & break things' Mold. Across 87 countries, these founders have created 109,000+ jobs and raised $31.2B while tackling issues like energy waste, mobile health access, food security, and renewable energy.

@pookiesorcery @nilz @tante As for AI. Sure, it started out as marketing. But is way more than that now. Way more than it's owners suspect, I bet. Quick side question though. Under WHAT outlandish circumstances has EVER led you to believe the framing around AI was scientific? Not in this reality. It was just speculation until a few years ago. Pure Science fiction.

As for propiganda....You aren't in a position to bitch, are you? Total ignorance on the topic puts you on the same par.
Do better.

@tante

This is important:
>>Am I comparing AI to rape? I am not. I am, however, comparing the language we use when discussing AI adoption to the language of rape culture.<<
