How to Approach Experience Design for Humans
Use Storytelling to Make Design Decisions Visible

A good design is a story. It has a beginning (the user’s need), a middle (the interaction), and an end (the outcome). Storytelling is not decoration; it’s the operating system of experience design. It turns abstract decisions into concrete narratives that everyone—designers, developers, executives—can understand and challenge.

For example:

- Instead of saying, “We need a modal,” say, “When the user tries to leave without saving, we’ll show a gentle reminder: ‘You have unsaved changes. Would you like to save before leaving?’”
- Instead of showing a wireframe, show a user journey: “Maria, a busy parent, opens the app while waiting for her kids. She needs to check her balance quickly. Here’s how the app responds.”

This approach makes design rationale visible, memorable, and actionable. It also builds trust—because trust is built on clarity, not on authority.
