A good critique is not a debate. It’s a structured conversation that surfaces questions before answers. The purpose of a critique is to improve the design, not to prove who’s right. This applies to any design field, but it’s especially critical in UI, where the stakes are high and the feedback can feel personal.

1. Start with the outcome: Remind everyone what the design is trying to achieve.
2. Describe what you see: “I see a button labeled ‘Submit’ in the top-right corner.”
3. Ask outcome-focused questions: “Does this placement make it easier for the user to complete the task?”
4. Avoid solutions: “I think it should be red” is not helpful. “I’m concerned the user might miss it” is.
5. End with actionable next steps: “Let’s test this with five users and see if they notice the button.”
