We finally made it to Roberta’s. Or was it Roberta’s that made it to us?

When the restaurant opened in Bushwick back in 2008, its fame picked up so quickly. Even before they got heat and gas when there were blankets and heaters in a refurbished nut and bolt factory with a roll down door — before TikTok — the wait was more than we could handle with two little children in tow.

Children grew up and Roberta’s — with their own rooftop and all — is now conveniently in midtown over Penn Station across from Madison Square Garden where Knicks are killing it this year and New York is going crazy.

Does their pizza worth the hype? Yes, it does. Everyone likes pizza for different reasons. I’m here for the dough. The basic one like Roberta’s Margherita is always my favorite — light, airy, acidic, sweet, creamy — tasty. Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil — no distractions.

Speaking of bread and cheese. Their sracciatella and house bread starter is to die for! We added anchovies to ours. Watch out for the steam when opening the bread!

Meatballs were good, too. Love it when the meat is coarsely ground. But bread and cheese! Next time I’ll order two of those and nothing else.
