So, I have an idea for a new painting. I'm scrabbling about my studio shelves looking for charcoal, and I ran across a box of concert ticket stubs.

And y'all, I think I've discovered why the music industry is suffering from "blue dot fever", where folks just aren't buying tickets.

I leave you with two reference images, and you can make your own judgements. (I may have made snarky comments in alt text, as I do.)

@MissConstrue Nobody likes Rush that much, right?
@demon6 @MissConstrue
I checked prices for Rush in Amsterdam, thought with 2x what I last paid for U2 was steep. But with just below €200 it seems quite affordable.
Sorry for you, not so much cheaper so it covers cost for transatlantic flight.

@bertkoor @demon6

But you do have the advantage of being in the Netherlands, which I am fairly sure is my mothership. I love the Netherlands so much. So much. One of my ancestor’s has a tongue in a museum in Utrecht, which is a statement most people cannot say with confidence. 😂😳🧐

@MissConstrue @demon6
Imho there's only one tongue in a museum worth seeing. It parted with its owner like four centuries ago.

That’s the one! Descendants decided Pennsylvania looked like a much safer place.

@demon6 I had a pre buy chance, before they went on sale, and my sister and I have seen them almost every tour since we were kids, so we thought about it, but the seats were offered at $400 each, and that wasn’t even meet and greet or front section, and she and I decided that the only way we’d pay that much for mediocre seats was if the entire concert was a dark rite to bring Neil back to play YYZ one more time.
@MissConstrue I feel like Rush needs to accept their fate in the county fair circuit

@MissConstrue

Man I miss the Liberty Lunch. I miss all of what below 6th used to be.

@johntimaeus Right? I literally don’t recognize the place, and I used to know it like the back of my hand.
@MissConstrue 1. Good lord.
2. I didn’t see RATM but odds are we saw some of the same shows at the Lunch!
Gwar, King Sunny Ade, Neville Bros, Burning Spear, John Hiatt, Jonathan Richman, Joe Ely, Bela Fleck… Best “seat” in the house was to stand on the folding chair that sometimes got left right in front of the roof pole about 15 feet from the left side of the stage.

@MissConstrue There’s a bunch of documentaries about sky-high concert ticket prices and how Ticketmaster and LiveNation are to blame. Here’s one that I saw (if you have interest and time).
