I loved the lemon #basil plants our friend Jen gave us. We grew them on top of the #Saffron bed this summer so in September I let it go to seed and cut the flower stalks when the Saffron came up. I just collected the seeds. Wow, basil seeds are so small! More in the alt text.

FYI: Jen runs https://www.wovenrootsfarm.com/ in Tyringham, MA which is a wonderful and kind place!

Wow, I got the seeds collected from the wonderful lemony basil plans I grew to sprout! These seeds are very tiny. I used tweezers to plant two seeds each in 16 of these tiny starting cubes!

I will fill Saffron bed with basil in June when the Saffron has all gone dormant for the summer!

The lemony basil is growing slowly but steadily in “Seedling Heaven”, a lightweight structure I made with led lighting and reflective sides.

Baby lemony basil just starting its second set of leaves!

I wrote alt text but in my sleepy headed state couldn’t come up with a good description of the interesting shape of the initial cotyledon leaves.

I really enjoy having a camera app with manual focus on my iPhone for photos like this one. An old version of Obscura.

Lemony basil showing out its second set of leaves which are definitely looking more like tiny basil leaves.

Amazing how fast the lemony basil is growing now!!

The lemony basil seedlings are outside now!

I dug up the corms in the Saffron bed to divide, share, and replant. Mixed in more compost and planted the lemony basil seedlings. I think they will be very happy!

The Saffron will start coming up again in late August and early September.
