Actually, I travel around Poland quite often because it's my home country. Sometimes situations like that happen, but not any more often than in Southern Europe (the Balkans)
I was the first family member in 70 years to visit my dad's parent's home country. He was French born and his parents were from Poznan. Poznan is where I drove the car into the opposite lane's ditch after avoiding a head on. It was the 10th time in Poland. Poznan was lovely. My dad was jealous. lol.
@s007ii Very interesting story. Poznań is a very important city for Poles, full of amazing architectural monuments and landmarks. I also recommend visiting my home region, Lower Silesia, with its beautiful mountains—the Karkonosze Mountains
I also tried to get family records from Poznan city hall. But they told me that the records were either destroyed in the war while the ones that survived are now in Zielona Góra - at time before they split the provinces
@s007ii Sad news. It may be true. Unfortunately, my country was heavily devastated during the war, and we spent decades rebuilding it from the ruins
There is a giant circular building in Warszawa that was built on a Luftwaffe bomb crater. Now that's what I call POLISH efficiency.
@s007ii Yes, Warszawa is amazing—it has risen like a phoenix from the ashes
