The discussion about Digital ID apps is muddied by people who hold the wrong belief that their 'degoogled' phone can run banking apps, so the Digital ID app must be able to do so too.

The wrong belief is that their /e/OS (etc.) phone is degoogled. microG downloads a proprietary blob (DroidGuard) that collects device information in a privileged process and sends it to Google to get a Play Integrity (Basic) attestation.

These so-called degoogled devices like /e/OS are still at Google's mercy to be able to run all those apps that require Play Integrity Basic.

As an aside, the approach of @GrapheneOS is honest. Rather than hiding use of Google blobs, GrapheneOS is free of Google blobs. If you *do* need Play Services, you can run it fully sandboxed, so that it does not have more privileges than any other app.
