Ordering a bunch of windows. Two of them are even the same! The rest unique, because old log house.

We opted for the top openable/bottom fixed type, so you can leave stuff on the windowsill and also because they are quite low. Which we got used to and like now. You can see more of the garden :)

@yngmar if you don't order decorations matching the old wood windows a bunch of architecture nerds will be mad at you
@ignaloidas I don't think you can order new windows with rotten wood, bad caulking and wavy glass ;-)

@ignaloidas No problem! Frames are white, just like before 😁

I assume these people want to donate money for the price difference then? Or what do they expect? It's not UNESCO world heritage, just a decaying old house that nobody else wanted to save.

Perhaps they were too busy talking about other peoples window frames to do it themselves. Tragic! ;-)

@yngmar it's more wrt not having a "one big single pane" look rather than the color or similar

IIRC when I looked it's not
that expensive to get some basic decoration imitating the middle framing, and I would say it does look better. Though I do get the cost concerns.

@ignaloidas There are two panes, for practical reasons. We thought about adding more but they impede the view and we don't want to.

Which by the way is something these busybodies seem to fail to realize: These old windows weren't made in so many small panes because they look nicer or were better. They're made that way because large glass panes weren't easy to come by or stable enough. So a huge extra amount of woodworking had to be done to make all this extra framing to work around these limitations.

Practical reasons that no longer apply. We can have nicer, more insulated windows now, hooray! The rest is just fear of change and failing to mind ones own business.

What if someone chose to paint their house in rainbow colours? Raging townsfolk with pitchforks? Molotov cocktails? Lynching?

@ignaloidas I doubt it's relevant when you live in a farm as opposed to a city/town. @yngmar
