Thanks! We use LibreOffice Draw & Atkinson Hyperlegible Next font, using the asset kit provided by RC International.
The event went really well I think, everyone had fun, we fixed a ton of stuff and had an overall great reception in the community. It's hard to pick out a favorite part, I just like spending time with our group.
Re: setting up your own RC: We have found invaluable support in our local library system. We're really fortunate to have a robust online booking system for our libraries' meeting rooms, which allows us to reserve space for free at any location in the region. It allows us to operate on pocket change, effectively - without that resource, we probably wouldn't be able to do this. But we have also found that the local librarians and programmers actively *want* to work with us, because Repair Café is very aligned with their goals in education, sustainability, mutual aid and community building, etc. Those relationships have taken us beyond 'operating' to 'flourishing'. When I can, I try to write them handwritten thank-you cards for hosting us. Some locations have even helped us promote the program to their community.
We have also found great success in consistency over volume. Our event meets once a month, every month. Some events are quiet, with only a few repairs, especially in the early days; some events have us busy back-to-back, or even turning people away due to lack of capacity. But people know that if they can't make our event in June, they can find us in July, Aug, etc. Knowing our schedule in advance helps them plan, they tell their friends, their friends tell friends, and so on. We keep holding them either way. The consistency also helps our volunteers. It would be hard to do these events more often than we already are, I think it would strain their capacity as well as mine, but the volunteers know they are always welcome to join us whenever they have the time, if not this month, then next, or the time after, etc.
