I don't see enough people talking about generative "ai" in terms of labor power, so i want to state unequivocally: if you are using generative "ai", you are scabbing.
@adrienne It seems unequivocal, and I certainly do not condone theft of intellectual property, but I have not yet heard an explanation of how #genAI is ethically different from sound sampling, remixing, or mixed media collage for example. The arrangement is what is new, not the elements. Please help me understand.

@meltedcheese @adrienne you got it right.

Meta torrenting material from Anna's Archive for training was outrageous, not because IP, I do not really believe in that like they do, but because they do and are hypocrites

Materials on the open web are fair game for anybody

That is how it should be

Those corporates are bad people, rights and freedoms exist to protect bad people

@worik @meltedcheese I certainly have problems with the theft-and-plagiarism part of slopbots, as well, but i'm not sure why that's relevant to the post you are both replying to, which isn't about plagiarism but about labor?
@worik @meltedcheese Which is to say, i'm not sure why i'd bother answering a question that's not only obviously asked in bad faith but is not even related to the thing i actually posted about in the first place?
@adrienne @worik Will you please explain how scraping for AI training is different or the same as digital sampling of original material with respect to labor? The controversy is usually about intellectual property, not labor.

@meltedcheese @adrienne

> how scraping for AI training is different or the same as digital sampling of original material with respect to labor?

I cannot. The issues with digital goods is IP not labour, IMO

I am interested, willing to change my mind...

@worik @meltedcheese There are many issues with generative "AI". the IP issues are well-covered. There are also labor issues, environment issues, information issues, and cognitive issues. I'm absolutely not required to restrict my complaints to the thing you want to talk about.
