he attended an international school in Thailand, partly religious but also based along the lines of a British boarding school.

No leather jackets there, these places have *strict* uniform regimes but likely plenty of institutional abuse and trauma.

Hence why he might consider a leather jacket / USA culture as "cool"..

he is trying to look like "cool Asian uncle", but a real one is more down to earth and could actually fix your old motorcycle or car or electronic stuff rather than make some bullshit AI technology that destroys the environment..
