This may come as a shock to anyone who used to follow the All Blacks. Andrew Mehrtens has delayed bankruptcy proceedings for the second time in the ChCh High Court.

You expect people with glittering careers to be sorted, but that's not always the case.

All Black great’s bankruptcy application put off again

An application to have Andrew Mehrtens adjudicated bankrupt has been adjourned to allow discussions over payment to continue.

You also expect someone who gives financial advice and asset management to know how to do financial things.

Any creditor can send them off to Court to begin bankruptcy proceedings. My partner sent her former landlord off to Court (o.b.o. the Council) for not paying his rates, and my Dad sent a neighbour to bankruptcy for not paying a bill for maintenance on their shared driveway.

Not colossal sums, just people who refused to pay their bills.

There must be a decent sum involved here, or he would surely have repaid the debt before the first hearing and avoided the subsequent media coverage.

In the past I've used a similar instrument for commercial clients who wouldn't pay. It's called a 'Closing Order' which basically gives them two weeks to pay in full or their company gets closed. I used it twice and it's delightfully effective.
