I love Jellyfin but it has flaws. Let's talk about them.

I love Jellyfin. I've talked about it here on The Review many times. Before I was a Jellyfin user, though, I was a Plex guy. See, I've never been keen on the idea of streaming services. You know the ones: Netflix, Hulu, CBS All Access Paramount Plus, HBO Now HBO

The Bryant Review

@gardiner_bryant

Big fan of #jellyfin and have been since I started self-hosting a few years back. Roku support has been my least favorite part of the experience.

There's been a standing issue with seeking during playback of videos direct playing that locks up the entire application and needs to be dropped back to the roku home screen to regain control for a few updates now, and no one seems to know why, or if it's server side, or just the TV clients. There are open issues on both.

So far the only workaround I've found is to force transcoding, allow remuxing audio. This minimizes impact on the server load, but still diminishes audio quality, which is not ideal.
