Today we took Mum shopping,
Groceries are getting quite expensive.
I got on with my admin,
But we decided cutting the hedge was more fun.
Sent emails to my manager,
Who was intrigued by my website.
Did caretaking,
And then chatted with Mum.
Watched some videos,
And also S1E1 of Vera.
Tired now,
Off to bed.

@Maker_of_Things I couldn't get on with Vera. Tried the first episode a few months ago but just couldn't see what the fuss was about.

Did you enjoy it?

@TheDonsieLass
I have watched a few episodes of Vera, but not in order.
They have been alright, just a bit odd, and I was confused as to how she became that kind of person in that job.

So when S1E1 came on it was a chance to see her 'origin story'.
Hmmm.... I don't think I would have watched the other episodes based on this. Vera shouldn't have been at work. She should have been given compassionate leave, a whole load of counselling, and a whole lot of job retraining.

But, I still want to find out why she is pootling around in an old Land Rover.
Especially the time when one of her team was dying on a beach, and she led the race to save him, pootling along a country lane in her Land Rover, when all the police cars behind could have got there quicker if she had pulled over to let them past!

@Maker_of_Things
I agree, she didn't seem in a fit state to be at work. I seem the recall the solution or deduction that led to it was also rather unsatisfactory to me

@TheDonsieLass
Yeah, I guess they may be trying to do the 'flawed but relatable character' thing, along with her calling everyone 'pet'.

It carries over better in later episodes, but I wouldn't say she was completely competent at her job, even though she seems to get the case solved.
There should be a lot of disciplineries against her for unprofessional conduct.

I suspect we are only watching for the same reasons we watch Midsomer Murders. Nothing else worth having on as background TV.

@Maker_of_Things We end up watching all sorts of old claptrap for the same reason!
