Just pop the end off and suddenly "the network's down again!" and everyone has to take a coffee break while the techs go cable tracing 😁

@rotan Wait, I said "wrong answers"

@_the_cloud The techs would know after the second time to go check the ends first, thus not leaving people time for a coffee break, so I suppose technically wrong? 🙂

@rotan

@mkj @_the_cloud

Ah but the techs are in on it (they need coffee the most!). 😉

@_the_cloud True story: back then I had a stoner friend who had a few more stoner friends.

So one day the friend, and the FoaF came over. FoaF saw this and asked "krass, was ziehst Du Dir denn damit rein?"

Needs translation. Literally means "what do you pull in with that?", but can refer to consuming something, also drugs.

So, me, poker faced, replies "doom".

FoaF looks impressed, never having heard of this amazing drug. Friend nearly falls over laughing.

@jens I figured "drug paraphernalia" was going to be one of the answers. And your answer was technically not wrong.

@_the_cloud Technically, no, but if I had rephrased it, it could've been.

But I find joy in sharing that anecdote 😁

@_the_cloud Ok, here's my wrong answer:

To avoid composite video interferences when connecting a bunch of VHS recorders to a common bus, using BNC connectors. The method of using "T" splitters like these was much more robust than the classic technique of using vampire taps.

Instead of a VHS recorder, you could also connect a PC with a special composite video capture card like the one in the picture.
@_the_cloud Configurable wifi antenna − you could fit the antenna to the chosen channel by enlarging, forking, reducing, stretching or collapsing it.
Back in the days you could use any 80 MHz wide channel from 1 to 16 GHz, and the BBS often shared elaborate ASCII drawings of the best setups for specific purposes like directional radio or penetrating reinforced concrete walls.
