Well that’s me got my arse down to the local gaming club. Throughly lovely folks, great person on the other side of the table, and have my head much better around #Spearhead. Very happy with that outing. Two losses. First one was a turn four wipe out what did it (12-18) while I learned the ropes. The second was a very fun and very close run affair, misplaced a unit that cost me the game and the had the last roll go against me that could have drawn as well (17-18). Great fun.
On the whole very much like the system - feels pacey, interesting, and competitive in a way that feels narrative and fun. Reminds me positively of Kill Team, but the mental load is more manageable than #KillTeam is starting to be. Only complaint is, like a lot of GW games just now, there’s a bit of ‘gotcha’ cards and actions - lots of interrupting turns etc etc - but having been all up and in it with KT for so long - this one just about pulls it back from the brink and is mild by comparison.
@RollleafD Thanks for this write up. I wanted to try out Spearhead for the first time with Cities of Ash but it’s sold out everywhere.
@renegadejade it did seem to disappear. Do love that every time they launch something Mordheim-esque it’s sold out instantly, and yet they never seem to take that to its logical conclusion. If you manage even the terrain and board (or get proxy stuff for it) let me know and I’ll happily scan the info from the books you’d need to get playing away! Found it quite a fun layout and the Relics (small terrain things) quite fun and impactful.
