And my May/June lock haul. I've already picked the Abus and the American Lock, but I'm leaving the Kasp for another day.

I actually started picking the Abus before I even checked if the lock worked (I had a huge dark night of the soul a few weeks ago after I got an American Lock 1100 that I 'couldn't' pick. It turned out that it was broken, and I spent 3 days convincing myself I'd forgotten how to pick locks before even bothering to try the key in it.)

I know, not funny. I've wondered about the lock being borked before when I can't pick it. Especially old, crunchy locks without keys...

It hasn't happened to me so far but...

Lol, I'll admit, now that is a few weeks in the past, I find it hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚

I was having a meme level crisis about lock picking, to the point where it started making me unable to pick other locks, and then I tried the key, realised it was broken, and immediately found myself able to pick locks again, lol.

@DarkSheepArts A good friend brought me several locks missing keys awhile back. This one caught my eye right away. I was intrigued by the core protruding a tad, as compared to most padlocks. Once I began studying it up close I realized it has a plastic bible and the core has slid out maybe 0.125 inches. It's unpickable now but if you didn't know what to look for you could waste a lot of time trying๐Ÿ˜†

I suspect it was in a fire or near something that got it hot enough to seriously soften the bible area. The metal core started to fall out.

It was locked but rapping on the side while hanging by its shackle got it to pop open.

@lfisk

Is that a British Smith & Locke brand padlock, by any chance? Yeah, they have a weird plastic bible and it always struck me as dodgy.

@DarkSheepArts No, just a cheapo China knock-off here in the USA.

If you jam a stout screwdriver into the keyway and twist hard the bible will usually crack and it will turn and open.

They're just a really cheap lock. They pick weird too due that plastic part...

@lfisk

Ah! I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same factory that make the Smith and Locke ones. There was a Lock Noob video where he picked an S&L plastic bible lock and explained how easy it was to get into them (apparently one thing that people do when breaking and entering is just get a particular kind of lighter and just hold it under the lock until the bible melts.)

@DarkSheepArts Could be. There are a lot of these cheap locks out there. Lawyer Guy has some vids with these too๐Ÿ˜†
