My Mom's cataracts surgeries aren't covered by her Pharmacare because she needs advanced lenses - not covered by #BCgovernment.

The government only covers monofocal intraocular lens - when my Mom requires advanced lenses. Government doesn't cover advanced cataracts lenses.

So - please STOP messaging me about how BC government covers all cataracts - when they do not. I fucking work in health care. You seriously think I haven't looked at every possible helpful avenues prior to pleading more in public? I've been trying to get more help for far too long & not actually receiving help needed/requested.

My very first question, after last ophthalmologist appointment was - Does her Pharmacare cover what she needs or do I need to plan for costs outside of our monthly family budget.

I am not telling you what to do. As an American, we have to get "creative" about healthcare. For instance, my sister needed some dental work. The co-pays were crazy. My sister found she could pay less than the co-pays if she took a vacation to Cancun, Mexico. She took week to recover at a resort and she could chew with the left side of her mouth again.
This is just a suggestion. You may want to do better research than some strange American on Mastodon.

It’s like that here in the US. I had cataracts and detached retinas done in both eyes and couldn’t afford the bifocals, about 2 or 3 thousand dollars each, so they inserted the no frills. Sorry your mom has to do through this.

@Mepurfield Except Canada likes to brag about how much better we have it. When media ignores daily financial struggles that many families, like our own, keep suffering while trying to survive.

I'd like it if media were more honest. I'd like more people outside of Canada to understand people have killed themselves here, multiple times, because they couldn't afford ongoing medical costs & were ignored by their government representatives. There's countless families, like ours, still struggling in 2026.
