#GenderedIntelligence has published its analysis of the new #EHRC Code Of Practice at https://ow.ly/EXNE50Z4QwJ

The new Code empowers those who want to exclude #trans people from services and spaces and makes life harder for those who want to support trans people. It sets dangerous precedents.

But I was struck by this positive slide from its Facebook post at https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DyD9e4aSi/

@2legged An informational graphic featuring dark purple text on a light blue background. The image starts with the large, bold heading, "Remember:". A list follows, with each item preceded by a dark purple arrow: "There is no toilet police"; "There is no realistic way to blanket exclude trans people - even if the government really wanted to"; "You are under no obligation to answer questions about your gender or sex. If someone harasses or humiliates you to try to make you prove it, this is discrimination"; and "There is no reason not to keep doing the things you love and building the life you want". The graphic concludes with the text, "One thing is more important than anything else: Keep living your life. Your identity, existence, and rights are worth fighting for." The final sentence reads, "Our community has survived, even thrived, under hostile laws and regulations before, and we will do so again."

I like this "positive slide". Even though it rather refers to legalities (important enough).

The paragraph above (and the analysis) describes, though, how the danger of everyday life getting more harmful is very, very real. Confrontations, harassment, attempts to deny service or difficulty in the workplace can become very real, and resorting to legalese is not always easy in the middle of a situation.

More education is necessary. Fighting the Code is necessary. Political action.

Yes, @kiwi2002. There is serious risk of vigilantes feeling empowered, and acting illegally. Maybe violently.

A lot will hinge on whether police can be relied upon to take a firm stand against toilet vigilantes.

@2legged For what it is worth, you do not need link shorteners on Mastodon, Mastodon always counts all links as 25 characters.

@d_ex_m Those links came to me in shortened form. I saw no need to expand them.

And if the shirtened link is <25 characters, there is still a saving.
