@hoosiersocial The welcome messages you guys post when new members join are nice, but can I suggest that you wait to post your welcome messages until the new member has a profile? Every time you post a new member, I click the name to see if I should follow them and there’s never anything to go on. If you waited until there’s a profile they might get a few new followers. Or maybe post an immediate welcome message, then follow up with a second message with this week’s/month’s new members?

@DazeEnd

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. The reason we do it this way is out of a hope that early engagement helps to improve retention. Of all the signups we get, only a fraction actually stick around to become consistent and regular contributors (i.e., most will never actually do stuff like complete a profile). But tagging them right away allows a path for folks on the Hoosier Social Steering Committee to respond, boost, or otherwise interact and hopefully encourage stickiness.

@DazeEnd

But the idea of a batch summary of new members is a good one. We actually do something sorta like this during our Steering Committee meetings…metrics and stuff about signups, moderation, server utilization, etc. We could talk about the relatively short putt it might be to turn this piece into public info.
