@jonhicks @Luke It was pretty cool before their acquisition by CBS in 2007.

I met so many people on the platform and went with them to concerts. The custom radio stations were mind-blowing.

Then CBS happened, and basically nothing happened anymore, and stuff went to competitors like Spotify or Songkick.

@obrhoff @jonhicks @Luke My scrobbles date back to 2005, and I've continued to scrobble concurrently to #LastFM and #ListenBrainz . I feel much more invested in the open-source nature of the latter and had actually thought about leaving the former before this news.

Their public-facing site has seemed abandoned for awhile now, so I'm curious and cautiously optimistic about the potential. (Maybe there's been activity inside the paywall, though I wouldn't know.)

I joined in 2009 so I only know it since acquisition but the last few years I've had this low level fear that the site would eventually fold.

The news of them going independent is so fantastic though and instills confidence in me that they're doing better than it seemed!

I'm optimistic that this will give them the creative freedom to breathe life back into the site and attract a new generation of listeners!

No better time than now to join pro to support! :)
