Finally got an electric car! ๐Ÿ˜€

@me_ goodness does that thing need a good washdown, but nice GET!
@SnoopJ The poor thing was sitting in storage for thirty years or so, I'll give it a complete overhaul (it needs a new battery in any case as this is missing). I wanted one as a teenager but couldn't afford it... so I had to wait for forty years :).

@me_ as I understand the battery's not an uncommon repair on them anyway because of the age?

Either way, fun restoration project ahead :)

@SnoopJ This was a 12V lead-acid battery which would be defective after four decades, I think. It seems there are replacement LiFeP04 Lithium batteries available.

@me_ I saw one of those pedalling/driving along The Monsal Trail in Derbyshire a couple of years ago. Very cool, but also a very bumpy ride!
@me_ Huh, what is this?

@phranck It's a Sinclair C5, a three-wheeled electric vehicle (similar to a recumbent bike) designed in 1985 by Sir Clive Sinclair. There's one shown in the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge, too.

@me_ Oh, wow! I never heard of this device. ๐Ÿ˜
@phranck @me_ You can see one in person (plus a lot of other cool Sinclair and Timex stuff) for free in the Load ZX museum in Portugal! https://loadzx.com/en/
LOAD ZX Spectrum - World's first Museum dedicated to our first personal computer

The LOAD MUSEUM is dedicated to the ZX Spectrum, which was for many Portuguese and foreigners (Spanish, English, etc.) their first personal computer. The Museum also includes many other equipments related to this theme, in a functional state and properly documented, so that it can be enjoyed by the visitors.

@arroz @phranck One more good reason for a vacation in Portugal!
@me_ @arroz @phranck you can also spot one at the @ocm :)

@phako @arroz @phranck @ocm I definitely have to make a trip to the North of Germany in the next semester break โ€“ the museum at Uni Hamburg is also on my list. They don't have a C5 (as far as I know), but the first Apple Lisa that was sold in Germany!

@me_ @arroz @phranck @ocm yeah well you know how it is with museums that you have basically in walking distance -.-
If you take an umbrella with you does that make it a cabriolet ? ๐Ÿ˜œ
@justine Sinclair had an official solution for British weather... ๐Ÿ˜‚
@me_ That is actually a bit cooler than that tired old Delorean a friend of mine has. ๐Ÿคฃ But ... does it work? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Wasn't that always the trouble with Sir Clive? Dare I say "the microdrive capacity keeps increasing until the tape rips itself apart" at this point?

@phf Of course it doesn't ๐Ÿ˜‹ โ€“ but there are great manuals and videos on restoring C5s. This will keep me busy for some time in addition to the Lisas, the Mac 512ks... and I think I have a day job, too...

@me_ I guess I finally know who I donate my old Macs to. I think I have a whole stack of LCs somewhere... ๐Ÿค” But where???

@phf I think my LC collection is still missing an LC III...

The IKEA Expedit/Kallax shelves are not only useful for storing NeXT Cubes! ๐Ÿ˜€

@me_ Yes I think I have an LC III. But now I really worry about whether I removed the batteries or not. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ And since I can't recall where they are, I can't check. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Oh noes! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Will advise post-haste once I figure this out.
