I see a real gap in #foss advocacy

there isn't any "protect kids in oss" groups, at least none I can see.

yeah theres rules in some projects saying you can't discriminate no matter on the age

but if you face a trust issue, then your basically fucked. Because the general advice is to meet people in person over a beer and resolve your differences

some people under 18 can't arrange that kind of trip cuz it's expensive and time and safeguarding

that is the real hypocrisy/issue in #OSS

@joshlaw We are the original FOSS youth organisation and would certainly try to support any children reaching out to us.

@Teckids thanks a ton for agreeing with me

you must think the advice given to people "in the mud" is quite unrealistic for someone of a young age (me)

@joshlaw Sort of, but travelling with very young FOSS contributors or enabling them to travel to FOSS meetings and conferences always has been an important part of our activities.

@Teckids
yeah, fair, but traveling to conferences may not be acceptable or available for every child (me)
that's why I said you would be fucked if you were in the mud.

because the criticism from the maintainers whom doesn't like you for example could follow into projects where you are completely new.

if you asked any maintainer of a foss project how to regain trust, they would say "to
meet people from a given project in person and work with that community
and be upfront about your past"

@joshlaw It obviously shouldn't be required to solve personal issues, sure.

@Teckids

what I mean is that if you "fuck up" in one foss project

then, depending on the person you piss off

they may tell people of other foss projects that you did this fuck up

and boom, you can't contribute to a fucking library system
