Tom MagnanimousI've posted on private about my ongoing medical situation, but I need to actually start trying to spread this so I can get the word out about my gofundme. I have spent the last three months living with a cancer diagnosis, a squamous cell carcinoma under my tongue that has colonized my jawbone. It's taken a lot longer than I would have preferred, but next Thursday I am finally going in for surgery. They're going to remove about 40% of my jawbone and replace it with a graft from my fibula. My insurance has mostly been cooperative, but I am finding myself having to pay out of pocket for dental implants (with paltry contribution from the dental insurance) because it's considered cosmetic. I've also been unable to work for the past three months and I expect recovery will keep me incapacitated for another two. So I really need to get the ball rolling on this fundraiser before I am laid up in the hospital for two weeks.
Folks, I am floored by the outpouring of support, not just monetary but emotional and material in non-financial ways. I have to give a huge thank you to my oldest friend, a guy I've known since middle school, for the largest donation so far (he's not on here but I want you all to know what a great friend he is), but the bulk of the amount raised so far is entirely thanks to y'all on here. I know the momentum will run out (mostly because you've been so quick and generous with your help that it can't continue at this pace) but I do hope we can keep it rolling a bit longer. The most important thing you can do right now is to share this in other communities that I can't reach. If you are still on Facebook or Instagram I feel like sharing there could be a huge help. I chose to leave those platforms but one thing that they are genuinely good for is charitable giving, so shares on there will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your support and I love you.
