Enjoy a slow thread about yer Graxβs adjustment from big city livinβ to #SmallCityLivin. I will get plant namesβcommon and scientificβwrong and eagerly invite correction.
Weβll start with some #creepingPhlox ( #PhloxSubulata ) from our backyard.
More backyard creeping phlox (Phlox subulata)
Probably mulberry (Morus spp.).
#GreatMullein ( #VerbascumThapsus). Apparently a somewhat problematic invasive plant.
Probably #motherwort ( #LeonurusCardiaca ).
Gardeners are laughing at me, posting these non-descript plants.
Hereβs the thing. We had a yard when I was a kid. But I was an indoor cat, just reading all the time. On top of that, although my mother grew up in a small city near Philadelphia and her father had an agricultural background, she didnβt seem to know anything about wildlife at all. So whatever was growing in the yard was um dandelions and non-dandelions.
So yeah Iβm just catching up.
Probably a cherry plum tree (Prunus cerasifera).
Probably an apple tree. Orchard apple or crabapple? Time will tell.
Probably a cherry tree (Prunus subg. Cerasus), out in the neighborhood.
Lotsa people (well my mother-in-law) dislike a #blueJay ( #CyanocittaCristata ) but not me, certainly biased due to my adolescent fandom of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club.
I filtered the hell out of the first photo because it was severely disadvantaged by my vantage (other side of a distant dirty window); forgive me M. Daguerre.
#GarlicMustard ( #AlliariaPetiolata ) in the backyard. An invasive species. Itβs a beautiful yard but if it belonged to us weβd try to make it native.
