In praise of the Copy | When one copies #rembrandt one discovers, that even in rough Sketches (like here) the Maestro was utilizing three grades of shadows: soft ones, made by hatching, medium ones with watered bister and very dark ones, with direct applied bister. ( Didn' t know before what "Bister" is but it turns out to be Rembrandts preferred sketching ink)
