#3GoodThings (class on Don #DeLillo's Cosmopolis)

1. Played Erik #Satie's Gymnopédie 1, which the students didn't know (it plays in one of Eric Packer's elevators!)

2. Talked about ALL the #art in the novel: Not only Satie, but also #Rothko, rap, film.

3. Discussed the novel in relation to critiquing binaries; advancing a theory of asymmetry.

@CindyWeinstein oooh. This is so cool. I tried to explain to my friends what I thought the central themes of The Silence were about: how we order our perceptions based on agreed-upon expectations, and how we might react to a world suddenly bereft of contextual cues, but I lost them all at "It's by Don DeLillo."

I probably only scratched the surface, but it made me want to read a lot more by this author.

@kimlockhartga

Thanks! It was a fun class. I haven't read The Silence but just took a quick look at what it's about and I totally want to read it! Have you read White Noise?

@CindyWeinstein I have White Noise on my TBR. I think it would be right up my alley.

@kimlockhartga

you're in for a wild ride and a real treat. Enjoy!
