Way too many wonderful native plants out there not getting enough love in people's home landscapes (and commercial landscapes as well). Calycanthus floridus (Sweetshrub, or Carolina allspice)....Fothergilla gardenii (Witch alder)...Cepholanthus occidentalis (Buttonbush)...Illicium floridanum (Anise tree)....all of these can take considerable shade to full sun while still flowering prolifically. And benefit wildlife! #plants
@thegardendude @Enlightenedharlot With the exception of the anise tree, I've gotten rooted cuttings of the others,as well as about 10 other species of native shrubs from my county soil and water conservation district. They sell regionally appropriate trees and shrubs, a bundle of 5 of most species for $12. Fifteen years into my #nativeplants conversion and I couldn't be happier.
@pitd @thegardendude @Enlightenedharlot This is true in my area too. In King County WA (metro #Seattle), the King Conservation District offers bare root native plants at very reasonable prices. (The only drawback is that you kind of have to plan ahead and preorder because they sell out). Other municipalities in other areas have similar programs. If you're not sure ask a #MasterGardener volunteer in your area.

The sale offers a variety of native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers for conservation purposes such as wildlife habitat, windbreaks, hedgerows, reforestation and stream enhancement. They also work great on home and garden projects.
