What do you call the genre that is about people being in love? It's not romance, because that's invariably the cheesy kind and focuses too much on sex and standard relationship models.
Any suggestions?

@AverageDog id start with "fiction" and follow your plot from there, real people in healthy love have compelling lives and stories outside of their romantic relationships, regardless of how important those relationships are

Edit to add, for clarity: i say "follow your plot" as in "let it lead you to your genre label", not to diminish or belittle your question 🫶 hope im making myself clear, my desire is to help but i have a very autistic way of saying things that land sideways, regardless of that intent

@Irenetherogue
I appreciate your answer!
A lot of the plot in my story is indeed unrelated to love, but love always plays a central role.
But then love in the story is not defined as an emotion shared by two people, but as a universal force that is discovered by different characters and that is never limited to the confines of a relationship.
Thanks for the feedback! Let's see where the story will lead me! :)
