@Jess.Stetson 375mm on your G97 would give around the same field of view. The plane was at around 2500ft altitude.

You can get the Olympus 75-300 or Panny 100-300 for sub £300, I think. The Minolta mirror lens cost me £175 a few years ago, it's probably going up for sale soon.
