It's quite crazy how good #opensource is for the #environment. Other ecosystems effectively create unneeded tech junk.

Working on my backup machine at the moment - Thinkpad X240, 4 core 4th gen Intel, 8GB of RAM. I do 100% of the stuff I do on my primary machine, some things are slower, but they get done.

Just try running #Windows on it - 10 is unusable, while being supported for couple of more months. Windows 11 won't even install.

Intel 4th gen MacBooks are from 2014, not supported anymore.

It's even crazier that I run the same @opensuse and software on both
@escapetofreedom I agree. For a variety of reasons I’ve dragged out an an old 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad from my desk drawer. It has been shocking at how good @fedora Workstation and @flatcar Linux have performed for the kinds of tasks that I need done. I notice the age most obviously during compiles. For a variety of reasons, I don’t tend to use a Linux desktop as my primary graphical interface these days so my only complaint has been that the continuing “evolution“ of the default desktop is not to my liking.
