It's such a garbage situation. @zzt and @axbom's posts are 100% right. @kagihq is problematic in many ways.

I wished there was any company out there trying to offer a good search experience without AI bullshit. I'd love to pay.

@tante @zzt @axbom @kagihq

SearXNG. Mojeek.

@kimcrawley @zzt @axbom I tried both a few months ago and they weren't great. But maybe that's a bullet I'll have to bite.
@tante @zzt @axbom @kagihq I've been pretty happy with Quant, perhaps that could be a solution.

@tante @zzt @axbom @kagihq Quant is also infatuated with AI, so not sure if that's really what you want.

Mojeek would be cool and is not on the AI train afaik, but I also haven't had a ton of luck finding decent results with it.

(Edit: it seems Mojeek has a whole "summarize" tab which uses AI. It can be toggled off, but it sure sucks that nobody wants to provide an AI-free service)

How about https://metager.org/? I use them for quite some time now and I'm a happy customer! #metager
MetaGer: Privacy Protected Search & Find

Search safely while having your privacy respected. The digital knowledge of the world must be freely accessible without paternalism and abide by states or corporations.

@stefanfrede Be aware that Metager uses the Brave index as one of 3 possible sources. Not AI, but a whole other bunch of issues … Fortunately, you can switch it off.

@dirkhaun Hopefully Nolm (https://nolm.eu/) is just around the corner!

uruky.com kannst du was bezahlen :)
Arbeitet mit netten search-providern, hat sympathisches SignUp, kein KI-Zeugs. Suchresultate sind nicht umwerfend, aber werden mit Personalisierung besser. Ich finde das Geld immerhin ganz okay angelegt ...

@tante @zzt @axbom @kagihq I've been using them because I'm just so desperate for a search engine that gives useful answers at all. The ethics weren't really a consideration cus all the comp are also evil AI shill mega corporations. I wish there was a company that just sold good indexs for a fair price and you could self host seach easy but alas
